ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
- Stan Lapidus
As a SPARK program advisor, Stan Lapidus is an experienced life-science entrepreneur and inventor with more than 30 issued U.S. patents. He founded SynapDX, a company developing diagnostic tests for the early detection of autism, for which he currently serves as President and CEO. Prior to SynapDX, Stan founded and led Cytyc, EXACT Sciences, and Helicos BioSciences. He holds academic appointments at Tufts and MIT. He was recently inducted into the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering.
- Karin A. Payne, PhD
Dr. Payne is an Assistant Professor of Orthopedics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and a faculty member of the Gates Center for Regenerative Medicine. Her current research program focuses on the development of functional regenerative medicine approaches to treat growth plate cartilage injuries affecting the pediatric population. Her group studies this important clinical problem at a mechanistic level by investigating the role of angiogenesis in bony repair tissue formation, which occurs after growth plate injury and is the central cause of associated growth abnormalities. At a translational level, they are developing different types of potential treatments (e.g., stem cell and growth factor augmented repair, 3D printed implants).
- Josh Seinfeld, MD
Dr. Seinfeld is an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery and Radiology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He is Director of the Endovascular Neurosurgery/Interventional Neuroradiology Fellowship at the University of Colorado Hospital. His clinical interests include the treatment of vascular diseases of the nervous system, as well treatment of spine disorders.
- Marsha Guess, MD, MS
Dr. Marsha K. Guess is a urogynecologist and Associate Professor in OB-GYN at the University of Colorado. Dr. Guess’s research interests include increasing women’s knowledge about pelvic floor disorders and understanding the pathophysiology of these conditions, particularly as they relate to pregnancy, childbirth and sexual dysfunction.
ABOUT SPARK:
The SPARK program at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus focuses on technologies addressing unmet clinical needs to bridge the “translational gap” between the lab bench and the patient. By providing a community of industry advisors, investors, and biotechnology researchers, SPARK is successfully advancing scores of new diagnostics and drugs to the clinic and commercial sectors from hundreds of faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and students.
